Put simply, the Medicare rebate has not kept up with the rising cost of providing healthcare services. That has led to 65 percent of medical practices in Australia charging all their patients’ out-of-pocket fees.
It was a difficult decision however rising costs of wages, insurance, supplies and equipment has meant that the Medicare rebate does not cover the cost of running the practice.
Our doctors will still offer bulk billed appointments for concession card holders:
Doctors’ appointments will attract a $40 fee and other minor procedures attract a $20 fee.
If you pay with cash, you will pay the full amount and apply to Medicare for the rebate.
If you pay with a debit or credit card, you will pay the full amount. If you would like an electronic rebate, you will need to have your bank account registered with Medicare. The rebate will then go into your bank account.
If you do not have a bank account registered with Medicare, you will pay the full amount via EFTPOS and apply to Medicare for the rebate.

K-life Medical was founded in 2023 when former Killarney GP, Dr Leith Geisel, donated her practice to us so the community would have control over their health care.
Dr Geisel had served the community for over 13 years, recognising that the town and district needed a local General Practitioner, and wishing to ensure locals wouldn’t need to leave town to access medical care.
Now, Dr Geisel has retired, but K-Life Medical proudly continues her legacy. We deliver quality, community-owned health care with heart; with a practice run by locals, for locals.
K-life Medical is located at 7 Eucalyptus Street, Killarney
